The study series

The study series was commissioned by Datatrans Ltd, the leading Swiss specialist for internet payments. It wants to make a contribution to the reflection and further development of sales concepts to consumers.

Distribution is changing rapidly under the influence of digitalisation - the study series accompanies this development. Its statements are based predominantly on the experiences and assessments of the members of the approximately 30-strong study panel. Its members are designers and decision-makers from potentially market-shaping providers of consumer goods and services in Switzerland. They have been surveyed annually by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW since 2009.

The study series launched in 2009 under the title E-Commerce Report Switzerland still had a basic understanding of a market divided in two categories: stationary and online. When this division was no longer tenable, the 12th edition was published in the summer of 2020 with the new guiding concept of the networked world of offers under the adapted title Commerce Report Switzerland.

But then came the Corona crisis and it became apparent that it would accelerate the changes in the world of offers. But how exactly? To answer this question, a supplement to the study series was created. It will be released in three reports:

  1. in the already published June 2021 edition Barometer: Assessment of the current situation in Swiss retailing.
  2. in the current issue of November 2021, Focus. On the one hand it describes the characteristics of the paradigm shift in the distribution of consumer goods and on the other discusses its consequences for different types of market actors in the form of theses. These theses will serve as the framework for the following study in 2022.
  3. in a final edition in summer 2022, after a renewed survey of the study panel, the participants' ideas about the further development of the networked world of offers will be addressed. A perspective covering a time span of five to ten years will be taken into account.
